Dear Hawk Nation,
As I write to you as the new Superintendent of Washington County Schools I am overcome with humility. My memories and experiences as a former student, teacher, coach and administrator run through my mind. Not only is this a professional milestone for me but it is a full-circle moment. I am a proud 1997 graduate of Washington County High School. From the long bus rides originating at 6:45 every morning on Edwards Ford Road to working a summer job at Thiele Kaolin Company this community has shaped me into the person I am today. My own children walk the same hallways I once did. To lead a district that has given so much to my life and my family is a responsibility I hold close to my heart.
As we begin the 2025–2026 school year together, I want to share not just my excitement for what lies ahead, but also the values and priorities that will guide our path forward.
Student Achievement, Readiness, and Performance are at the forefront of all we do. We will focus on high academic standards, robust support systems, and opportunities that prepare our students not just for the next grade level, but for life in college, their careers, and beyond.
Positive community engagement is paramount for our school system’s success. Our schools are the heart of this community and we are strongest when we work together. As a parent and lifelong resident, I know the incredible power of collaboration. We will invite your voices, your experiences, and your hopes to help shape our decisions and direction.
A great education requires a strong foundation. From transportation to technology, finance to building maintenance, we will ensure every part of our district operates with integrity, transparency, and efficiency. We will always put student needs first.
We are blessed with dedicated educators and staff who give their all to our children each day. We will invest in their professional growth and well-being. A thriving workforce leads to thriving classrooms.
We will foster a culture of high expectations, support, and accountability across our district. Every student and staff member will learn and work in an environment that is safe, respectful, and inclusive. We are committed to a positive climate where everyone feels valued and inspired.
We will continue to pursue excellence in the classroom, on the field, as well as the stage and beyond. Whether it’s a student solving a complex math problem, scoring the winning goal, or performing a solo at a concert each student and success matters.
This district gave me the tools to dream, achieve, and live with purpose. I am honored to give back by leading us forward with compassion, clarity, and conviction. Let’s make this school year the most successful one yet.
Sincerely,
Timothy May
